Missouri Farmers Step Up to the Plate

The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council (MSMC) has teamed up with other Missouri agricultural organizations to launch an educational campaign with the St. Louis Cardinals. Themed, "Stepping Up to the Plate," the goal of this initiative is to increase consumer understanding of how today's farmers are using the latest technology to provide safe, affordable and nutritious food.

St. Louis Cardinals' left-fielder Matt Holliday is working with Missouri soybean, corn, beef, poultry and dairy producers to highlight the great strides farmers are making in meeting the nation's growing nutritional needs while protecting the environment. Holliday and the Cardinals are partnering with Missouri farmers on an advertising campaign featuring radio commercials, grocery store promotions and in-stadium advertising.

The following Missouri farmers are being featured in the educational campaign:
• Warren Stemme, a soybean farmer from Chesterfield
• Kevin Hurst, a corn farmer from Tarkio
• Rusty Mulford, a poultry producer from Aurora
• Rick Rehmeier, a hog producer from Augusta
• John Ridder, a beef farmer from Marthasville
• Donna Telle, a dairy farmer from Uniontown

In addition to learning more about the six family farmers featured in the St. Louis Cardinals campaign, Missouri residents can also sign up online to win the "Ultimate At-Home Tailgate Party," where one lucky fan will win a new gas grill, flat screen television and Missouri-grown products. The registration form is available at www.farmersfeedus.org. While visiting the website, consumers can also watch videos of five additional Missouri farmers. The campaign is expected to run from May through September 2010.
