BUFORD AND ROSIER WIN MISSOURI FFA PROFICIENCY AWARDS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
April 18-22, 2006 COLUMBIA, Mo., April 20, 2006 – Brian Buford, of the Clark County FFA Chapter, Kahoka , Mo., was named the state winner of the Oil Crop Production Proficiency Award at the 78th Annual Missouri FFA Convention. Buford, a senior at Clark County High School, is the son of Kevin and Rhonda Buford. His FFA advisor is Corey Stott and Mark Lemmon. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Oil Crop Production is one of 51 proficiency awards presented at state level. The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council sponsors this award. Buford attended State FFA Convention where he was a Courtesy Corps member, and participated in the Agronomy Career Development Event (CDE). He attended the National FFA Convention, and was the star chapter farmer. Buford was the chapter secretary and vice president. Outside FFA, Buford is a member of Saint Paul United Church of Christ Youth Group, Bear Creek Bow Shooters League, ATA Trapshooting League, National Honor Society, honor roll, and the marching band. Buford began his Supervised Agricultural Experience Program by sharecropping corn his first year. Buford and his father cash rented a farm on halves where they planted corn and soybeans. During the past two years he boosted acreage to 211 acres of soybean production. Buford learned basic tillage equipment, storage, seedbed preparation, seed spacing, and yield potential of the various types of soils. He has also learned about the usage and application of various soybean chemicals. Currently, Buford is being trained to operate Global Positioning Systems to increase productivity. Buford plans to attend college, majoring in agriculture business management. He then wants to return to Kahoka and continue raising corn, soybeans, and cattle. The Missouri FFA Association has more than 23,000 members. More than 7,000 FFA members and guests attended the annual Missouri FFA Convention held April 20-21 in Columbia. FFA strives to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. COLUMBIA, Mo., April 20, 2006 - Dylan Rosier, of the Mound City FFA Chapter, Mound City, Mo., was named the state second place winner of the Oil Crop Production Proficiency Award at the 78th Annual Missouri FFA Convention. Rosier, a junior at Mound City High School, is the son of Kirby and Kim Rosier. His FFA advisor is Ryan Morris. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Oil Crop Production is one of 51 proficiency awards presented at state level. The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council sponsors this award. Rosier attended the Greenhand Motivational Conference, the area leadership conference officer training, and area recreational activities. He served as the chapter sentinel, and is the vice president. Outside FFA, Rosier is involved in football, basketball, track, art club, and the Future Career and Community Leaders of America. Rosier began his Supervised Agricultural Experience Program by renting 35 acres and planting soybeans. Later Rosier and his father began sharecropping an addition 140 acres of soybeans. He has learned to manage the land, application and knowledge of chemicals, and most importantly finance management.
