(March 9, 2007) - Lewis County farmer Greg Sharpe, Ewing, Mo., was elected president of the Missouri Soybean Association (MSA) at a recent board of directors meeting. Sharpe previously served as MSA vice president and treasurer and was appointed to the board of directors in 2002. The MSA board of directors also elected Kelly Forck, Jefferson City, vice president; Chris Filer, Garden City, secretary and Doug Thomas, Brashear, treasurer. Sharpe said he’s looking forward to the new job because it’s an exciting time for the state’s soybean industry. “We’ve seen very encouraging growth and progress from the soy biodiesel industry,” Sharpe commented. “Our efforts to promote value-added opportunities for soybean producers are paying off and we will continue to support Missouri’s No.1 cash crop.” Sharpe has more than 20 years of experience as a sales representative for Pioneer Hi-Bred International. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in general agriculture from Northeast Missouri State University. Sharpe was recently inducted into the Agricultural Leaders of Tomorrow and serves on several other boards, including: Missouri Farms Dairy, 1Soy, Golden Cows and Lewis County Farm Bureau. Dale R. Ludwig, MSA executive director/CEO, is confident Sharpe will excel in his new role. “Greg Sharpe is an exceptional choice to represent Missouri’s soybean producers, and his leadership skills will prove to be an asset. His awareness and knowledge of issues in the soybean industry make him a great ambassador for the association.” The MSA is a statewide membership organization providing a collective voice in representing interests specific to the Missouri soybean producer through legislative advocacy, influencing public policy and communication/education to and for its members in order to increase profitability for Missouri soybean farmers. # # # |
