Industrial Building new markets with industrial products is one of the focus areas of Missouri Soybean Programs research efforts. In fact, many do not realize that it was Missouri soybean farmers who first invested research dollars in testing and evaluating soy-based biodiesel in the early 1990s at the University of Missouri-Columbia, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Agricultural Engineering Department, which essentially gave birth to an entire new industry in the U.S. Throughout the past 16 years, Missouri Soybean Programs have continued this effort with research dollars, specifically targeting the development of new products from soybean oil and soybean oil-based industrial products. One of the key research institutions in this effort has been the University of Missouri-Rolla, which has a team of researchers focused on developing the next generation of industrial products.
