U.S. Effort
Building new markets for soybeans and increasing soybean consumption
are primary goals of the soybean checkoff.
- Goal. Develop eight new industrial uses by 2005 that increase the
utilization of U.S. soybeans by 10 million bushels per year.
- Effective.
New soy-based products are quickly gaining popularity as the
checkoff spreads the word about the many benefits of soy. Soy products
can be used in five major market segments that use petroleum products: plastics,
coatings
and inks, lubricants, adhesives and specialty products such as solvents.
- Efficient. Checkoff-funded efforts are increasing U.S. soy utilization
through the development and commercialization of soy-based products.
Plus, the checkoff increases the efficiency of our investments by leveraging
federal
research
dollars currently available to support efforts to increase the number
of bio-based products.
- Farmer-Driven. Checkoff farmer-leaders work with universities, private
companies and industry organizations to increase utilization by developing
and commercializing new industrial soy products and applications.
